Scientific Abstract

The synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles in various shapes and sizes is of high importance for many applications. The preparation of these nanoparticles is usually performed in aqueous solutions via a wet-chemical approach where micelle-forming surfactants are involved as catalysts, structure directing agents and stabilizers. The main focus of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of the interaction between inorganic noble metal nanoparticles and amphiphilic micelles. These interactions seem to play a crucial role in the formation, stabilization and degradation of such particles. The characterization techniques in this investigation are small angle X-ray (SAXS) and neutron scattering (SANS) in combination with UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
