Short description
The project studies the rent control regime introduced in Germany in 2015 ("Mietpreisbremse") which restricts rents in newly concluded contracts. It considers effects on rents, prices, the supply of housing, and the behavior of landlords. Furthermore, the project characterizes areas where the regulation is binding in order to draw inferences about the distributional consequences of the rent control policy.
Scientific Abstract
Das Projekt untersucht, welche Auswirkungen die Regulierung von Neuvertragsmieten durch die sogenannte Mietpreisbremse auf Wohnungsmieten, Preise, Bautätigkeit, und das Verhalten von Vermietern hat. Außerdem analysiert das Projekt, welche Gebiete innerhalb der regulierten Gemeinden von der Mietpreisbremse betroffen sind, um Rückschlüsse auf die Verteilungswirkung der Maßnahme ziehen zu können.
