Tomás Arias-Vergara received a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Antioquia (UdeA, Colombia) in 2014, a Master of Science degree at the same institution in 2017, and a Ph.D. in a bi-national program (cotutelle) between the UdeA and the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2022. Since 2015, he has been doing research on speech processing and machine learning methods for the analysis of pathological speech signals resulting from neurological (e.g., Parkinson's disease), structural (e.g., children with cleft lip and palate), and perceptual (e.g., hearing loss) disorders. He has also investigated the effect of the natural aging process on speech and analyzed voice disorders using high-speed videoendoscopy data. His current research focuses on AI for medical applications. Still, he also works with different companies by co-supervising Master projects on time series, signal processing, language models, and others.
