Peter Bican studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. During that time, he co-founded and led an e-commerce start-up until its acquisition.

After the legal preparatory service and an MBA in Business Integration at the Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg, Germany, and the Boston University, Questrom School of Business, USA, he joined Deloitte in Luxembourg und PwC in Frankfurt, Germany. His work experience spans consulting, audit, financial advisory, and capital market transactions in both SME and large multinational firms.

Thereafter, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Technology- and Innovation Management at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar, Germany. Building on his prior experiences as educated Lawyer, MBA, and Certified Accountant (FCCA), he intensively studied questions on intellectual property and its strategic application at the intersection of law, business, and accounting. In addition, he spent multiple international research visits to the Center for Research in Technology and Innovation at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management in Chicago. Peter Bican joined the Chair of Technology Management at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg in May 2017 as Akademischer Rat (Assistant Professor).

Research Interest

His research interest in the field of Idea Management is centered on the question of development and strategic management of intellectual property rights. His interdisciplinary approach spans the full spectrum of intellectual property rights like patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and trademarks. Moreover, he analyzes the effect of intellectual assets on innovation and firm performance metrics.
