Born 1961 in Stuttgart; 1981-1988: studies in economics at the University of Kent at Canterbury (M.A. in Economics 1985) and at Hohenheim University (PhD 1988); 1988-2000: researcher at the Cologne Institute for Business Research (IW Köln), head of the industrial relations section; 1997: Habilitation at the Ruhr-University Bochum; 1997-2000 Privatdozent for Economics at the Ruhr-University Bochum; since April 2000 Professor for Labour and Regional Economics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg; from 2004 to 2013 member of the scientific advisory committee of the IAB; since 2006 IZA research fellow; since 2007 speaker of LASER, since 2008 co-editor of the Journal for Labor Market Research (Zeitschrift für Arbeitsmarktforschung), and since 2015 Research Professor at the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH).
