Der Forschungsbereich beschäftigt sich vorrangig mit der Rekonstruktion von Änderungen im globalen Kohlenstoffkreislauf und daran geknüpfter Änderungen in der globalen Temperatur- bzw. Klimageschichte. Kohlenstoff- Stickstoff- und Sauerstoffisotopenanalysen an Karbonaten, Phosphaten und organischem Material werden genutzt, um globale Änderungen im Kohlenstoffkreislauf, des Nähstoffangebots in den Ozeanen und der Oberflächenwassertemperatur der Ozeane zu rekonstruieren.
