Literature, Ethics, Responsibility

Lehrstuhl für Anglistik, insbesondere Literaturwissenschaft

This research project focuses on the specific role literature assumes in historical and contemporary ethical debates. Adopting a diachronic perspective, it studies the manifold ethical dilemmas caused by the individual's confrontation with the overwhelming changes in history, fate, morality, natural science and religion. The catalogue of topics analysed comprise 'theodicy', 'war', the 'Holocaust', and 'Responsibility in the Natural Sciences' and 'The Ethics of Survival'.
