Light-Matter Interaction in the Terahertz Range (Dr. Malzer, Prof. Weber)

Description:


The Terahertz spectrum ranges from 100 GHz - 10 Thz and is currently among the most interesting regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Until recently, it was barely accessible, as the frequencies were too high for electronic devices, but too low for optical methods. In the last years, we witnessed a breath taking technical and scientific development. Among our contributions were the development of a tunable, strong cw THz source based on n-i-pn-ip photomixing devices, as well as the development of novel sensitive detection concepts. We further work with Quantum Cascade Terahertz lasers and carry out experiments at the FELBE large-scale facility in Dresden. Among other interests we pursue research with the material system graphene, with which unprecedented experiments become feasable.
