The audio group of the LMS under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Walter Kellermann was ranked second place in the international PASCAL CHiME Speech Separation and Recognition Challenge among 13 participating research teams worldwide. The aim of the competition was to filter human speech recorded in the most adverse circumstances and process it through an automatic speech recognition system. The particular challenge was the high microphone distance of 2 meters to the speaker with simultaneous strong background noise, such as playing children, washing machines or televisions. The solution developed by the audio group of the LMS is based on the in-house TRINICON concept, which i.a. is used for blind source separation and is already proven in many applications.
